Happy first Monday of Spring, everyone!
We hope you’re easing into the new season today with a fresh iced coffee and a little extra pep in your step. Usually, this is the time of year when we talk about blooming desert flowers, nesting quail, and those two glorious weeks of perfect 75ºF weather before the “Big Heat” arrives in Phoenix.
But let’s be honest… was last week a “welcome” or an ambush?
The Winter Heat Wave That Wasn’t in the Script
According to the calendar, we were technically at the start of spring. But if you glanced at your thermometer or stepped outside for more than thirty seconds, the calendar was clearly lying to us. We just survived a streak of 100º days in what was supposed to be the “cool” season! With more are right around the corner.
It was the kind of heat that makes you double-check the month on your phone and wonder if you accidentally slept through Spring entirely and woke up in the middle of July. It led to some very confusing scenarios for all of us:
- Trying to decide if you should keep your cute “Spring” cardigan out, just in case, or accept the reality of flip-flops and tank tops in February.
- Considering turning on the patio misters before you’ve even finished taking down the last of the wintery decor.
- Watching the desert wildflowers bloom and then immediately look at the sun like, “Wait, we weren’t ready for this level of commitment yet!”
Even the AC Units Were Startled
Honestly, we think even the air conditioning systems were a little startled. Picture your unit sitting there, happily snoozing, dreaming of new filters and a long vacation. Then suddenly, it got that 100º “Summer is here!” wake-up call and had to scramble like it was late for a job interview, without a shave. It wasn’t just a warm-up; it was a full-on baptism by fire!
Now that it’s officially Spring, we are cautiously optimistic. Maybe—just maybe—the spring weather got that aggressive triple-digit impulse out of its system and will grant us a few weeks of breezy, 80º bliss.
So, on this first Monday of the season, get outside, grab an iced tea (or three), and enjoy the beautiful Arizona scenery while the temperatures are still behaving. Because as we all know, the real “Baking Season” is just around the corner.
