Ah, Phoenix. The Valley of the Sun. A place where winter is a fleeting dream and summer is… well, an extended, sun-drenched reality. If you’re a seasoned Phoenician, you know the drill. But if you’re new to the desert, let me give you a friendly heads-up: the heat is coming, and it’s about to turn up the dial.

We’ve enjoyed our brief flirtation with pleasant temperatures, those glorious weeks where you can actually leave your house without feeling like you’re stepping into a pizza oven. But those days are numbered. The subtle shift in the air, the increasingly intense sun – these are the harbingers of the scorching summer that awaits.

What to Expect:

  • Triple-Digit Days: Soon, the 100-degree mark will become a daily occurrence. And then, we’ll start flirting with 110, 115, and beyond.
  • Oven-Like Nights: The desert heat doesn’t always cool down at night. Expect warm evenings and nights that barely dip below 90 degrees.
  • Dry, Dry, Dry: Humidity is a rare and fleeting visitor. Prepare for extremely dry air, which can lead to dehydration and cracked skin.
  • Sun Intensity: The Arizona sun is no joke. It’s powerful, relentless, and can cause sunburn in minutes.
  • How to Prepare:

  • Hydration is Key: Drink water, and then drink some more. Carry a water bottle with you everywhere you go. Electrolyte drinks can also be helpful.
  • Sun Protection: Wear safe sunscreen, even on cloudy days. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are also essential.
  • Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day. Early mornings and late evenings are your best bet.
  • Our personal favorite, AC Maintenance: Ensure your air conditioning is working properly. Call us to schedule a tune-up to avoid breakdowns during the peak heat.
  • Most Important, Protect Your Pets: NEVER EVER leave pets in a hot car. Provide them with plenty of water and shade when not indoors.
  • Home Preparedness: Make sure you have window coverings to block the sun, and consider investing in a swamp cooler if you don’t have AC.
  • Vehicle Preparedness: keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, including water, and make sure your vehicle is well maintained.
  • Embrace the Heat (Or At Least Tolerate It):

While the desert heat can be intense, there’s a certain beauty to it. Sunsets are spectacular, and the clear nights are perfect for stargazing.

Phoenix has adapted to the heat, with plenty of indoor activities, water parks, and refreshing pools to help you stay cool. So, get ready, fellow Phoenicians. The heat is coming. But with a little preparation and a positive attitude, you can survive and even thrive in the desert summer. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe!
